Gunmen Storms university in Benue State, Kills Lecturer

– The spate of assassination in different parts of the country is a cause for concern

– There are daily reports of kidnapping, assassination, armed robbery and other vices

 –  Security agencies should step up their game to stem the tide of these vices
The University of Mkar, Mkar (UMM), Benue state was thrown into shock and mourning yesterday, August 11 when unknown gunmen stormed the university community and assassinated a senior lecturer.

Mr Wilfred Aondosoo Tondo, a senior lecturer in the department of political science of the school, was murdered in fron t of his family members.
The assassins were said to have stormed Tondo’s residence about 4:30a.m. and headed straight to his living room where he and his family members were observing early morning devotion. They shot the lecturer dead.
Tondo, it was learnt, was also a chairmanship aspirant in Buruku local government area of the state fueling concerns that the killing may have been politically motivated.
 The university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Suemo Shagba, confirmed the incident to New Telegraph, adding that the lecturer was shot dead in his residence located in the university’s staff quarters.
 Shagba further said the lecturer was immediately rushed to the Benue state University Teaching Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, also confirmed Tondo’s murder. He said investigation surrounding circumstances of the murder has commenced. Recently, Hezekiah Oyewunmi, a carpenter was shot dead on Sunday July 7, in his one-room apartment by suspected armed robbers, who attacked Olorungbebe, Cele area of Egbeda, Lagos.
 It was learnt that Oyewunmi was sleeping with his wife and children when the robbers broke into his room demanding money and other valuables at about 2am.
