For the second time since it debuted in the top spot back in May, Drake’s Views has been kicked out of the number one position on the Billboard 200, this time by an artist that has never before made it to such a high spot on the albums chart.
DJ Khaled, the king of Snapchat and one of the hottest producers in music at the moment, has just secured his first number one album with his latest effort, Major Key. The album, which is his ninth as a lead act and his sixth to reach the top ten, begins with 95,000 equivalent units, at least half of which were actual sales. Major Key features guest spots from some of Khaled’s famous friends and pretty much anyone who is anyone in hip-hop, including Jay Z, Future, Drake, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar, and many others. The set has already sent two singles, “For Free (ft. Drake)” and “I Got The Keys (ft. Jay Z and Future)” to the top 40, and there could be more hits waiting to be sent to radio.
Views might not be on top any longer, but it didn’t dip too far. Thebiggest album of 2016 is currently at No. 2, and it’s highly likely that there are more weeks in the penthouse awaiting the blockbuster. This week, Views shifted another 80,000 equivalent units.
Twenty One Pilots are just one spot beneath Drake, but in terms of how many copies both albums moved, the alternative duo isn’t even close to the rapper. Blurryface, which debuted at No. 1 over a year ago, only shifted 39,000 units, which is a minuscule figure for the third most popular title in the United States. The album is being powered by recent hit single “Ride,” which is currently in the top ten on the Hot 100.
Country heartthrob Jake Owen kicks off at No. 4 with American Love, hitting a new peak in his career on the albums tally. Despite being his fifth full-length, the album is only his second top ten, and it starts with 35,000 units.
